Speak of the devil . . .

I took this one in North Carolina at Chimney Rock Park.
The dangling rock formation is called Devil's Head. (click on the picture to get a better look)
To me, it looks like one of those creatures in Lord of the Rings.

It's been a long time since I've been near mountains. About 2 years. I think this summer, I need to head north. New Hampshire, Vermont. How can you look at mountains and not worship? This is a cool pic. Thanks DJ.

Were you hanging by a rope? Your situation appears rather precarious.

When I went to VA for college a group of us went to the Peaks of Otter to climb the tallest peak. It's summit was lower than my hometown. So, in my prideful self I knew that I would blow the rest of those lowlanders away. After all I had rich blood and all that.
What I hadn't taken into account was the August in VA weather conditions. I am used to living in air that is thin, not air that you drink with a straw. So, how the mighty do fall. I was the one who had to keep stopping and holding the rest of the group up.

Yeah, Janet, that's probably why I love going there.

Kay, it's safe, but it is straight down.

The trail to the falls basically follows a 3 ft ledge of the side of the sheer cliff. They have railings but it gets pretty narrow. It's great.

If my memory serves, I was actually standing in sort of a rock bowl when I took that photo, so its not as dangerous as it looks. Of course, that's why it's a great photo.
