Speaking of my niece, Brooke . . .

. . . who also happens to be my godchild.

Here she is. Seriously . . . Look close. Really? Then click on the image.

She also happens to be an incredible singer.

I'm boycotting American Idol this year because they told her she didn't sing loud enough. Never mind the fact that she was singing in the Georgia Dome with thousands of people making noise and they didn't give her a microphone. She never even got the chance to go before Simon and the gang.

That's okay. I'm proud of her for having the courage and for being such a great kid. Um . . . adult. She's 17 now.

Here she is singing the National Anthem at age 13.

Wow. How lovely and crystal clear! I'd love to hear her now. (and, I just want you to know that I put down my lap top and hauled my pajama-clad body off my couch to listen to it standing:)

She'll love to hear that, Janet. She sings the anthem at a lot of different events. Her voice has matured but I don't have any recent recordings.

She makes me sick. :) She has perfect pitch-therefore can sing accapella and can learn songs on the piano just by listening to them.

I know I'm a little biased, but she was better than Sanjaya when she was 13. No offense intended to Sanjaya.

Um... I'M better than Sanjaya:)

Beautiful voice. Gorgeous young lady. Consider it God's divine protection regarding American Idol. There are other paths He might choose for her. Lovely girl.

To give you a little insight, Nicole. She is not fame hungry. She didn't go there ready to do anything to "make" it. Even though I don't think she got a fair shot, she considers it a good experience.

In other words, if she never "makes" it as a singer, that's fine with her.

Hah! She sounds better accapella than many do with musical backup . . . Besides all that she is pretty . . . A winning combination . . .

We're so much alike I tried to claim her as my daughter, but my sister wouldn't let me.

Correction: we're alike except I'm not pretty and I can't sing. At least I can't sing compared to her.

You're not pretty? :)

Okay, we all know I'm pretty.

(say that with a Little Richard voice to make the joke work)

You can't sing, then?

Dayle James Arceneaux said...

Well, Donna, it depends on who you ask. I have about a 4 note range while Brooke has a 2 or 3 octave range.

I used to sing in church but it doesn't count. No one is gonna be honest with you there. But then again, they did keep asking me to do it. I guess that's a good sign.
