Review Preview . . .

I was recently given the privilege of reading an advanced copy of Athol Dickson's Winter Haven.

It's scheduled for release in April and at the end of March, I will post a review. But don't bother waiting. Just click on the link or go to your favorite book retailer and pre-order a copy right now.

It's a great read and I guarantee you-you will enjoy it. Trust me on this one. This is one of those books I wish I would've written.

And right now it's available at a special price. While you're at it, if you haven't read River Rising, put it in the cart, too.

Yes! Listen to Dayle. Do it.

I will be posting a review in March as well.

I'm glad to know you liked River Rising since you live in that area. That tells me it must be pretty authentic. I really felt and smelled the swamp while reading that.

Just an additional note--if you're one of the many who loved River Rising, I did not, but I wouldn't have been the target audience. But I really enjoyed Winter Haven. I'm looking forward to reading yours and Kay's reviews.

A note on River Rising, Kay. There is a Pilottown where "Pilotville" stands. The first line proved the authenticity for me.

"The colored fellow came early in the morning poling a pirogue. . ."

Everybody's got a pirogue around here. At least it seems that way. In case you're wondering, it's pronounced pee-rawg. Kind of a flat bottom canoe. Okay some pronounce it pee-row, but they're wrong.

Oh, I thought that was a per-ogh-ee. You know. Like a folded-over pizza. And poling was another name for ... well, eating.

Guess I'm not in that target audience either. ; )

Donna,

I think it's time for Chris and Erin to consider an intervention.

donna fleisher said...

Hah! It's because of them that I'm this way to begin with. Talking to imaginary people ... caring about imaginary people ... Hanging out with other people who talk to imaginary people ... who care about imaginary people ...

I think we're all crazy.

P.S. No, no intervention. I'll be good. And please don't tell Chris and Erin I said they were imaginary. They think they're real.

Well Donna, they had me fooled. Hold on, I think Jonathon's at the door. . . . No, that's not him.

I do have a question for you. Has anyone ever looked at you and said in a soft voice, "I'd like to speak with Chris now ... No, I'm talking to Chris."

donna fleisher said...

ARE YOU ASKING IF I'M SKITZZO??? ; )

Dayle James Arceneaux said...

I'm sorry about that, Donna. Jonathon was using my ID to post comments. He thinks you're skitzzo.

Speaking of Chris and Erin - are they gonna be at your writer's retreat?

donna fleisher said...

That crazy Jonathon. Chris has commandeered my blog a time or two too. Silly characters. Ahh, but we love 'em. : )

Ya know? I don't know if Chris or Erin will show up for the retreat. They live in Portland - 2 hours away. Usually, in the presence of others, they're a wee bit shy. Which is probably for the best. If they show up and I start talking to them, even my writer pals may begin to wonder. (My writer pals ... who also talk to their imaginary friends.)

Later gator! : )

We're not imaginary. We just live in a different dimension. For a little while we break into your world and live full and free, then it's back to our world to carry on. We never stay away long, though, because we love to hang out with you crazy writers. You're all the best.

Keep writing!!

Yeah, you tell 'em, Rinny. Anyone who thinks we're just imaginary has never gotten to know us!! (Hee-hee-hee .....)

And hey, Jonathon? Loved your story. Sorry about the loss of your wife, Rebecca. Jason and I both know how that feels. But we hope you and Kayla live happily ever after, just like we are!! Give Jake a skritch for us!

Take care, everyone -- and you writers? Yep, what Rinny said. Keep writing!!

love,
Christina McIntyre

I titled mine a Review Preview, too. I thought I was being clever. You are the clever one. I was just accessing memory files that had been mislabled. It's that old age getting to me.

sorry.

That reminds me, Kay. I forgot to send you those retirement home brochures.
