One thing that continues to bother me is how some people with very little talent continue to get roles in huge blockbuster movies. I'm not saying I don't like some of their movies. I'm only saying they either can't act or they are extremely overrated.

Here is my list of overrated actors/actresses in no particular order.

1. -- Nicolas Cage.

2. -- Kevin Costner.

3. -- John Travolta.

4. -- Keanu Reeves.

5. -- Julia Roberts.

Disagree? Care to add anyone?

Brad Pitt, Richard Gere (gotta go with Mark on him), Angelina Jolie

You'll have to do your top faves next.

[Be sure to stop over at to read Dayle's Chapter One from his novel Dancing with Butterflies]

It depends on which Nicolas Cage your getting. The good one can act. The bad one is just cashing a paycheck.

Costner, Travolta, Reeves...check. I've liked Roberts from time to time.

I would add Richard Gere, Ben Affleck, and I can see Pitt and Jolie. Although I must give full disclosure...(whispering now) my wife and I may be the only two people in America that liked Mr. & Mrs. Smith.

(back to full volume) I'll email you more later about your 1st chapter...been working on the deck all day and I'm beat.

I have to agree with Gere and Affleck. I don't remember any of Pitt's performances to make a judgement.

I've seen a couple of Jolie's movies but I have no idea whether she can act.

Tom Cruise? Whaddaya think. Though, he wasn't bad in The Firm or in Rain Man ...

Hey Donna. I'm giving Tom Cruise a pass because although I don't think he's a very good actor, no one really claims that he is. About the only thing I do like about him is that he seems to really want to learn to be a good actor. And, he has put in some decent performances.

But man was he terrible in War of the Worlds and Jerry Maguire.

I'd scratch Nicolas Cage off the list. I like him. The rest can stay.

Hey Janet. My problem with Cage is the same problem I have with Costner. He plays every role exactly the same. And, he has developed the annoying habit of mumbling his lines as though he's doing a bad Elvis impersonation.

I really liked him in Valley Girl. But it's been down hill ever since.

Raising Arizona?

Janet, I couldn't bring myself to watch Raising Arizona because it starred Cage. (a little narrow-minded on my part maybe.)

I'm not speaking to the quality of his films, just his acting ability and the fact that he is overrated. I'm not saying he can't act at all, I'm just saying he's way overrated.

For any Cage supporters out there - watch Ghostrider. A dreadful performance.
